India Wine Awards 2017

The India Wine Awards were launched in 2017 as a unique, independent wine awards led by experts. Powered by Sonal Holland MW, the awards were co-chaired by Subhash Arora, President, Indian Wine Academy and Founder-Editor of delWine, and Sourish Bhattacharyya, noted food writer and blogger.


Ranking the best best wines produced in the country or imported into it, the first edition of the India Wine Awards, held at Sofitel Mumbai BKC, awarded 154 medals of Silver, Gold and Diamonds, including 23 Best in Class Trophies for outstanding wines, out of 301 wines entered.

India’s most distinguished wine writer and journalist, he is the Founding Editor of delWine, the country’s first online newsletter on wine, food and hospitality, which is distributed to 33,000 readers in 70 countries. Subhash also founded the Delhi Wine Club in 2002, which curates fine wine and dining experiences for discerning wine consumers in Delhi. He has organised nearly 300 events for the club and been on the judging panel of over 53 international wine competitions, including Mundusvini, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, HKIWSC, Decanter and Vinitaly, among others. He has been knighted by the Italian President and is the only Indian to have been awarded a Medal of Merit by the OIV.

Sourish Bhattacharyya, Co-Chair, Food and Pairing Competition; Food Writer; Author at and Co-Founder of the Tasting India Symposium.


A journalist with approximately 32 years of professional experience behind him, Sourish Bhattacharyya is India’s most eminent food writer. He wears several hats, including that of a columnist for Mail Today (India Today Group). He is the Founding Consulting Editor for the leading hospitality magazine, BW Hotelier, blogger at Indian Restaurant Spy and co-founder of the Tasting India Symposium. Passionate about wine – wine and food pairings are his special area of expertise.
